How to Sculpt a Mask: Sculpting Monsters in Clay Part 1

Norman Cabrera

Free 7-Day Trial

Learn how to sculpt a monster mask with master creature FX artist Norman Cabrera (The Walking Dead, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Planet of the Apes). For the first time in over three decades of making monsters for some of the leading FX studios in the industry, including Rick Baker's Cinovation, KNB EFX, Spectral Motion, and Steve Johnson's XFX, Inc., Cabrera will share his approach to monster sculpture.

In Part One of his 3-part course series, Cabrera focuses on building a stable foundation for your mask sculpture, including finding inspiration, gathering reference material (both anatomical and artistic), and blocking out strong primary forms with clay. From there, Cabrera shows you how to begin establishing character as you transition into sculpting secondary forms.
