Kenneth Calhoun

Kenneth’s love of special effects and makeup started at an early age with Ray Harryhausen and Toho’s giant monster movies. Inspired by a visit to Universal Studios at the age of 14, he decided to take his love of creatures and makeup seriously and become a special fx makeup artist. He studied and practiced constantly, watching Stan Winston School courses until he could recite them word for word. After winning a local makeup fx competition, he started doing makeups for independent films in his native Washington State.

At the age of 22, Kenneth moved from Seattle to Los Angeles, getting his professional start creating prosthetic transfers for Terminator Genisys in the Legacy Effects foam and silicone department, where he was eventually given his nickname “Super Ken.”

After several years of mastering his lab tech skills at Legacy Effects, Kenneth would eventually get the chance to focus on his passion for makeup when he became makeup department supervisor, giving him the opportunity to practice all aspects of makeup application, from prosthetics to beauty to hair.

Kenneth would follow his time at Legacy Effects by becoming the shop supervisor and a lead artist at Fusion FX. Currently, Kenneth has been broadening his horizons as a freelance makeup artist, taking on new and exciting challenges every day. He has a deep love for makeup and is always pushing to do more innovative things in the field.

Kenneth’s film and television work can be seen in Stream, The Longest Sleep, Campfire, Hellraiser, Outpost, Manifest Evil, Pathosis, Grey's Anatomy, The Mandalorian, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, The Shape of Water, Captain Marvel, Suicide Squad, X-Men: Apocalypse, Captain America: Civil War, Terminator Genisys, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Jurassic World, just to name a few.
