Born and raised in Southern California, sculptor Alfred Paredes' early days weren't filled with art. He was more interested in playing in the sun and watching science fiction movies and cartoons. Never thinking that all the cool stuff he was watching was actually being made by somebody out there. Though he loved drawing, was merely a hobby.
In high school, artistic sensibilities growing, Alfred decided he wanted to be an illustrator. In college, he discovered the world of Fine Art painting and he was hooked right away. He spent the first year and a half focused on painting. Then the school brought in a sculpting teacher and Alfred signed up.
After the first sculpting class, Alfred knew there was nothing else he wanted to do. Sculpture has been his focus for the last 15 years. A professional sculptor for over ten years, Alfred works currently as a character designer and sculptor, creating original character busts and full figures as well as working as a freelance and commission designer and sculptor for the collectibles and FX industry. Alfred's clients include: ZICA Toys, Sota Toys, Monster FX, Amalgamated Dynamics, The Ellen Show, Katy Perry, Hanson Brick Company, Tom Woodruff Jr., and many more private commissions (including a 9 foot bronze monument for the city of Arcadia, Ca).
Renowned sculptor, concept artist and designer, Jordu Schell, the founder of Schell Sculpture Studio, says "Alfred Paredes is an extremely imaginative and prolific artist that I have had the pleasure to watch grow over the years I have known him. His design sense is wonderful, and his vision is undeniably singular."
