Andy Bergholtz is a professional sculptor and creature designer currently living in Southern California. Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Andy spent his early life cultivating his skills as an illustrator and continued honing his craft as a student at Kansas City Art Institute. After only one year in art school, Bergholtz took a job as a concept designer for Trendmasters, a major toy company in the midwest, designing toys for Independence Day, The Iron Giant and Godzilla.
Andy's career as an illustrator was short lived, however, as he discovered his true calling in the world of sculpture. What had begun as a self-taught hobby had quickly become an obsession, and Bergholtz eventually left his job as a designer to pursue a career in sculpting, working for such clients as McFarlane Toys, Disney, Lucasfilm, DC Comics, Marvel, Spectral Motion and many more. Andy has also served as a key artist at Sideshow Collectibles for over a decade.
In addition to his film & collectible work, Andy has traveled the world from Italy to Hong Kong creating unique sand sculptures and pumpkin carvings, with some of his most recent work breaking a Guinness World Record and featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not!
Andy loves his job, “like Tom Hanks in BIG, only better… I admit that the ‘kid in a candy shop’ feeling hasn’t worn off for me yet; I’m still just ecstatic to be able to do this for a living. I'm basically just a geek.”
Andy’s inspirations are far too many to name, but fellow artists such as Aris Kolokontes, Norman Cabrera, Miles Teves, Simon Lee and Tom Kuebler are at the top of the list. And of all his creations, figures and achievements, his proudest are his three children, Lucy, Charlie and Andy II.
Andy sells his personal art through his website, monsterpappa.com.
